How the hell did I make it to 27 before ever watching an episode of Dr. Who?

I just finished the end of Series 2. I'm still all teared up.

Not the Brits, that's for sure.
Season 3 is great. Starts out slow, but really picks up.
Welcome to the club.

Blink scared the crap out of me, but he's not seen it yet, so we should be quiet. And. Not. Blink.

Re: Scary!
When the episode was over I glanced over at my husband and daughter and realized we were all three of us staring at the screen with our mouths hanging up... Shawn and I knew EXACTLY what it meant for the series. Amanda was a bit confused because she's only seen the new series.

Re: Scary!
i'm a strictly new series (got in a drunken argument over the weekend over doc4, so i needs to get me some of that), but i've read up on the older stuff, so i have some inkling of the implications. plus...the previews for the next ep kinda helped.:P

Now did you watch the real season 2 or the season 2 with the tenth doctor David Tennant (which is really season 28)?
Hoc Est Qui Sumusdiscoflamingo on June 22nd, 2007 06:14 am (UTC)
Tenth Doctor. I believe that watching the real season 2 would be quite the feat, since chunks of it are lost to all time.
prof_vencireprof_vencire on June 22nd, 2007 04:05 pm (UTC)
HAHAHA! Isn't that ironic?

To be fair, not all seasons of WHO are created equally (which is obvious, I suppose). I (and most folk) like the ... fourth doctor. With the scarf.
chadvalentinechadvalentine on June 22nd, 2007 08:36 pm (UTC)
Oh, for the record...
We have everything with the newer seasons.

Coni Anncjbbw on June 22nd, 2007 09:21 pm (UTC)
That's what the recons are for! Of the original series I only saw the last 2 years of Tom Baker. My husband reintroduced me, and since he is the the 2nd biggest Doctor Who nut I've ever met, we have begun watching it from the beginning... we are finally out of the recons, but most were done quite well. Thankfully Shawn also has a number of books and will happily fill me in on the details that he seems to have memorized.
DivineGothdivinegoth on June 22nd, 2007 02:29 pm (UTC)
I'm not sure, I watched the original Doctor Who with my dad when I was a kid. My dad got me hooked on British television shows at a very early age. However, I have only watched the new Season 1...repeatedly. I need to get my hands on the Season 2 before too long. Same with Battlestar Galactica...I need to remedy the situation.
scummchildscummchild on June 22nd, 2007 02:43 pm (UTC)
Hey, feel free to stop by if you want to watch Dr. Who sometime (classic or new). I have some of Series 3 (Tennant) on DVD too.

My cousin was way into Dr. Who, but I ascribed that to his being much older. And, kind of weird.
prof_vencireprof_vencire on June 22nd, 2007 04:08 pm (UTC)
During the medical testing, I've been watching a lot of Who and... there's a weird dichotomy of my inner parts where I am torn between enjoying it and being profoundly irritated. I'll work it all out, but still.
Epic Dude: weetabixmorecake on June 22nd, 2007 07:14 pm (UTC)
Who ftw! But (as mentioned above) you're not watching the *real* series two. I recommend some of the early stuff. And I'm *not* recommending The Doctor With The Scarf, as other doctors are better IMHO.

The same thing happened to me! Although I honestly would have expected you, of all people, would be all over Dr. Who. The boy is working on acquiring the real ones, so we can have a Dr. Who party sometime!
Coni Anncjbbw on June 22nd, 2007 09:27 pm (UTC)
You know there are a number of Doctor Who groups in the area. The one we are most active in is managed on Meetup.com, named, appropriately enough, the Doctor Who Meetup Group. We meet at the Minneapolis Library and actually watch episodes from the original series. (Last week was "The 5 Doctors.) There is going to be a sizeable Doctor Who presence at ConVergence the week after next with at least 5 panels on Doctor Who alone. Just something Whovish to consider.

Where did you get that icon of an f(?) atomic orbital? It is sooo cool. Yes I know that labels me as a big chemistry dork, but I am working on a higher degree in computational chemistry so not too surprising.

i have a bunch of old school who, like...the fourth doctor and the key to time series, but it is a completely different beasty.

i, on the other hand, threw my hands in the air and told the series i fucking quit at the second to last episode of season 2.

but rose tyler. le sigh.
