It's meant to do that. No, really.  
Check out this video of the A380 cross-wind landing test in Iceland. That second landing is what happens on a good day when you land a plane sideways. Iceland was one of the only places they could reliably do this test (other than Kansas, but that has other problems), due to the amount of wind necessary to move the A380 around.
