My Daily Outrage
Virginians still electing backwards/lame/idiot legislators
Ayn Rand Fucktard
Michael Savage ALSO a Fucktard

I'd add something personal, but I don't think I have to. These are people that have forgotten that we live in a world of interdependence and cooperation, shouting from a one-way mountain of truth.

Woah, Virginia is going to make it a crime to not report a miscarriage within 12 hours? That's one of the most insane things I've heard. What's even more scary is that the guy who is sponsoring this bill ran unopposed in 2003.

I hope that bill fails horribly. And I'm very glad I don't live in Virginia, even though I don't plan on having children ever.

There are email addresses on these sites.
Do I sit down and write these idiots? Does it matter?

I have never seen such an ill-informed pulic display. Then again, I don't see many public displays.
Humanitarian concerns aside, which is something I never like to do, are these people not aware that most of the man-made manufactured goods that the American people consume come from this sector of the world? "They're not in our sphere of interest." Take a look at your labels, buddy.
The United States has an acute economic interest.
Where was Michael Savage when Thailand sent work to Iraq to help American interests and ended up with a beheaded contractor?
Since when is Buddhism not the predominant religion in all of eastern/south eastern Asia?
Why don't we teach globalization in high school?

I'm so confused.

Yes, it's by giving a big middle finger to the tsunami victims that 'radical islam' will be curbed, and not by helping out and reaching across, like, our common fucking humanity.

Savage is a goddamned idiot.

but more like...massive radical islam in east asia? what?
iophaiopha on January 8th, 2005 01:26 am (UTC)
Well, there is a small kernel of truth to that, but I think it's been mostly overhyped.

masui on January 10th, 2005 03:31 am (UTC)
the previous article really insinuated that southeast asia seems to be nations of islam.

*sigh* It seems that almost every day I find yet another reason to be embarassed to live in Virginia. I did my part in trying to vote the idiots out of office in the last election, but sadly the majority of Virginians are staunchly pro-idiot.

Banzai Kitty
By the way in a loving way I offer you the following non-news.

The sequel to Buckaroo Banzai will be made as a comic.

I assume you already knew this, but with Mal partying it up in the state of beach I thought it may have been missed.

That institute is in IRVINE, you say? I should check the address and send them a "present."

That "present" may or may not include kitten feces.

Okay it will. Amongst other things. Other even WORSE things.

I can't believe that bitch has an INSTITUTE. How the fuck could you make that? What are the classes like, watching small children get abused and do nothing because "oh, it's not my problem, and I'm the only one that matters"?? Fucking hell. Asshats like that deserve to be on the business end of heavy weaponry with short fuses.

I'm somewhat amused by objectivists and libertarians who insist that "their money" is being extorted from them by the government and shouldn't be used for anything without their express consent.

They ignore that they live in a society and that their consent to be inducted into this society (and therefore taxed by it) was either given when they moved into it, or by their parents (as their legal guardians) when they were born. If they decide they no longer want to abide by those rules, they are free to leave and renounce their citizenship in their country.

The amusing thing is that any country which was mostly libertarian when it started has always moved towards socialism, usually for good reasons. The country with socialist policies has lower crime rates and most socialist policies actually lubricate the engine of capitalism (educated and healthy workers are more productive than ignorant and sickly ones).

Just as each person has a vested interest in making their society work, each nation has a vested interest in ensuring stability in the rest of the world (trade, image, epidemics, wars and terrorism cost more to address than most policies that mitigate them).

Epidemics can easily spread beyond a nation's boundaries, and so can violence, even if the only reason a person can think of to help someone else is because it's in his own best interest there's some pretty good reasons to help the recovery in south east Asia.

But somewhat cynically, I expect the reason the U.S. government is giving aid is mostly because it's determined that it would be popular with most voters and failing to give aid would be extremely unpopular with many voters. This may not matter to Bush as much, but I expect everyone around him wants a cushy landing four years from now.
