The Tax-Man Cometh

Finding my W-2 sitting on my desk at work, I realized something important - I have to do my taxes. This is not just a "slap-my-forehead and shucks" kind of realization - I've never done my taxes before. My family has their taxes done by an accountant in Park Falls, who is certified for Wisconsin and Minnesota - he did my taxes for free every year, because he said it was easy enough to take no more than fifteen minutes of his time. But I can no longer rely on Fred1 to do my own dirty laundry for me - I have to start doing it myself.

Does anybody have any suggestions or advice? Anybody willing to share some wisdom about dealing with taxes in general?

1: He is the "prime mover" for my very own Personal Law of the Clan of Fred, which states that "The majority of male accountants I've ever met are named Fred, and all the Freds I've ever met are accountants."

I would like to direct your attention to this post by sophiaserpentia in challenging_god. If a Christian needs a compelling argument for the civil institution of gay marriage, I don't think they need to look much farther than this. Sophia - I salute you!

It also includes my favorite exchange from today (so far):

yahvah: As it is written, "And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them." (Revelation 9:6)
angelvasectomy: I see that more of a commentary on the growing popularity of Xtreme sports.

AFA retracts Marriage Poll; Still Ass-Weasels

The American Family Association started a poll for their largely conservative (and exclusive) audience about whether America supported gay marriage. The AFA had initially started the poll to collect data they would send to the Senate. If you're a good blogging citizen, you probably remember coming across it and casting your vote. You may not have kept up with how there are currently two votes in favor of gay marriage (or a civil union) for every vote opposed.

It turns out that the AFA were really just kidding about the whole thing, and won't be submitting the "biased results" after their opponents have "decided to have a little fun".

I don't know whether this is common knowledge or not, and I don't remember where I first saw the link, but it makes me more than a little pissed.
