Ten Things about Me

In the spirit of Susan and Erragal, ten things you probably don't know about me:

  1. I played the clarinet from fifth grade until my junior year in high school, when I took up the electric bass. This was because my orthodontist said the clarinet would ruin my bite.
  2. I am a rabid fan of Dan Fogelberg, Billy Joel, and Fleetwood Mac.
  3. My poetry was published in Poet's Fantasy when I was 14, and I have been writing off and on since then - I won $20 in their limerick contest my first year at Mac.
  4. When I was in high school, I stopped myself from committing suicide on three different occasions because there was a phone between me and the knife, or the open window. Margaret always talked me down, and to this day I don't know if she realizes that this is what she did.
  5. I've been teaching myself how to play the guitar since I was 14.
  6. I am an Eagle Scout.
  7. I was turned down by girls 36 times before somebody said yes, and I can remember almost all of them with perfect clarity.
  8. When I was ten, I was convinced that an earthquake would level the Midwest. I had a survival kit and canned food in my room for just this purpose.
  9. I still have the first dollar I ever made in show business - after a state forensics meet, we performed Monty Python skits on the UW-Madison campus with a hat in front of us. All told, we made ten dollars in the rain after two hours.
  10. I'm the first person to ever lose their pants in Crystal Lake at Camp Tesomas.
