Everything on that list that I've seen I'd recommend, though Road to Perdition was incrementally colder and less energising than the others. It's the kind of movie that's good without being enjoyable. I will beat you if you don't see Whale Rider, which is the best, most touching, most spot-on depiction of modern Maori in film I've encountered. 24 Hour Party People I liked immensely, but my affection for British alt-rock is more than most. Not that it's not accessible if you don't particularly. I'll issue an open invitation of a burned Happy Mondays compilation CD to anyone who wants to listen to it before watching the film. Solaris: a Steven Soderbergh sci-fi, how can you pass it up? And Bend It Like Beckham if you want to see why Keira Knightley has no need of a corset.
