T.M.B.G. are SO NOT emo, it's ridiculous. And they rule. Woo.

All I know about emo is that those fuckers at WMCN who get all excited about some hot-shit local band what sucks are also the only people who play Moxy or TMBG. Sorry for the confusion, but unless you call it "altrock", what genre would you say TMBG is in, anyway?

PS - If people will continue to misuse the word "industrial", I will misuse the word "emo".

I would have to say that TMBG almost gets its own genre. I mean, if you listen to "She's Actual Size," "Birdhouse in Your Soul," and "Mink Car" all together, you'd think you were hearing entirely different bands (except for the distinctive vocal tones of the Johns). If I had to call it anything, I'd just wince, call it "rock," and be done with it. I don't want to label them any more than that... and they SURELY don't deserve to be called "emo," especially not after they're responsible for penning The Dr. Evil theme, a song for "Courage the Cowardly Dog," and pretty much all the music for Malcolm in the Middle.
I'd like to see the Fruvouses do all THAT. Heh. And I don't think they were on Space Ghost, either.

You wait there one minute -
Now, I love TMBG as much as the next guy - and to be fair, I think they get their own genre and all. But I would wager that Fruvous is fairly close in that regard, in that they can do many styles of music and pull each of them off fairly well. They are both witty and intelligent, but Fruvous tends to be a little more explanatory, and TMBG a little more cryptic. Both of these engender a fan base that is rabid to defend the band they found first to the death.

And I'm pissed they weren't on Space Ghost, but they're Canadian, eh - their promotion in the US, it'sa not so good.

Remember, I still love you - even if you have to hate Fruvous because your dad likes them. I can understand that, even if I don't like it.

But I will be damned if you tell me that "Kick in the Ass" isn't one of the most inspired a capella songs ever. I also think they've written the best song about the Gulf War ever.

You didn't give me the option to choose to stab them all in the face the way all 'college music' (god bless Mike Judge and his wonderful creation Beavis and Butt-Head for that term) groups deserve.

I have my reasons for not allowing virtual murder to happen in my journal
I think that some college music bands go down that road to selling out and sucking ass much faster than other genres. For fuck's sake, if we put Mötley Crüe on a helicopter with a crate full of smack, they'd put out a fucking double-album. Metallica needs to be dead, so we can get a decent tribute album. That's all I have to say about that.

I still like parts of both bands, which is all I can say about most "college music" band - I did a capella choir and folk guitar in high school (which is why I like the Früvous) and I started listening to TMBG when I was about 15 and playing Prince of Persia like a damn addict, so it's in my blood now and will never escape. And no, I don't want you to "help me out", either ;)

I like bands with clever lyrics on certain occasions - I like angry, loud thumpy beats and distorted noise for all occasions. I think that about sums it up, in toto.

Re: Another Choice.
See? I remember you playing some of this once, and I had completely forgotten about it until now. Why does Mouse on Mars have to get all the fucking attention on WMCN? They blow miles upon miles of c0ck. Harumph.

So - who are these people? And what are some of their songs I should find?
