The most depressing reconciliation of quantum mechanics with cosmology
is probably that envisioned by Larry Niven in "All the Myriad Ways".

You see, kids - quantum physics is all fun and games until it renders the multiverse existentially void.

I once read a really great story in Asimov's called "Redemption in the Quantum Realm". The question posed was, "If God is omnipresent and all-seeing, why does he not collapse all quantum waveforms into an unalterable present?" The resolution stated something like, "God is also omnicient. He knows all the possible outcomes, and does not need to observe to know what *could* happen. However, because man has free will, he does not know what our determined reality will reflect. He's waiting to see what happens, just as we are."

Anyway, you just reminded me of this.
